A Gantt chart is a visual project management tool that displays projects and tasks as horizontal bars along a timeline, showing when each task starts, how long it lasts, and how tasks overlap or depend on each other. To access the Gantt chart, select Planning > Gantt in the left navigation. The Gantt page is part of the Planning module.
In addition to viewing information, you are able to add projects, task groups, tasks. and sub-tasks, as well as shift project and task group timelines and edit other information.

- Add a Project, Task Group, Task, or Sub-Task
- Edit Information on the Gantt Chart

Add a Project, Task Group, Task, or Sub-Task
To add projects, task groups, tasks. and sub-tasks on the Gantt chart, click the plus in the upper-right corner of the page. A column of + will display on the right of the grid. Click the plus at the appropriate level to make an addition:

Edit Information on the Gantt Chart
You are able to edit information on the Gantt several different ways:
- Edit on the Grid
- Task Details Modal
- Dependencies
- Shift Timelines of Tasks, Task Groups, and Projects
Edit on the Grid
To edit information visible in the grid, click the pencil in the upper-right corner of the page; this will put the grid into edit mode. You can now click on a task cell in the grid and update the information. Be sure to click the pencil icon again when you are finished to exit edit mode.
Task Details Modal
Double click on a task in the grid or Gantt to open a task details modal. Here you can update the:
- Task Title
- Headline Status
- RAG Status
- Milestone Type
- Start and Due Dates
- Department
- Owner
Dependencies
Dependencies can be added and deleted on the Gantt. See Dependencies in the Gantt for all the details and instructions.
Shift Timelines of Tasks, Task Groups, and Projects
You are able to change the timeline for tasks, task groups, and projects on the Gantt by dragging them to the new time frame.
Because of the complexity of moving tasks groups and projects, we have a separate article going into detail about this feature; see Shift Project and Task Group Timelines in the Gantt Chart.
To shift a task, either:
- Click and hold the task. Either:
- Click the bar to adjust both start and end dates, keeping the dates relative.
- Hover over the either end of the task bar and click and hold to adjust either the start date (left side) or end date (right side).
- As you move the task:
- A light green overlay highlights what is moving and the timeline you are moving on.
- At each end of the task bar, start and end dates update.
- If you move a task outside the range of its task group or project, the task group and/or project bar moves to reflect the new start or end dates.
- When the task is at the correct dates, release it. A confirmation pop-up displays listing the new start and end dates for the task.
- Click Save.
Note that dependent task dates or status will not be updated. Owners of tasks who are downstream of this task (dependent on it) will be notified of the update to it so they can review the change in dates and update their task appropriately.
