Tasks are the backbone of WeTrack. They are flexible in terms of what exactly they represent and their content, but essentially they are items of work that must be accomplished in order for a project to be complete. For more about projects and tasks, see Introduction to Planning.
Tasks and milestones can be added several places:
- On the Dashboard, Projects & Tasks page, and Calendar, click the + Add button at the top of the page and select Add Task. The Add Task drawer opens.
- On the Gantt chart, click the plus button at the top of the page to put the Gantt in Add mode; a column of + plus signs will display. Expand the project and click the plus by the task group you want to add a task to. The Add Task drawer opens.
- On a project details page, go to the Tasks tab and click the + Add button and select Add Task. The Add Task drawer opens.
In the Add Task drawer:
- Project: Select the project the task should be added to. If you're adding the task on the project details page, this will already be selected.
- Task Group: Select the task's group.
- Task Title: Name the task.
- Headline Status: Add a high-level summary of the status of the task.
- Start Date: Select the date when work on the task should begin. This date becomes the baseline start date and is used as a reference in case start and due dates are then changed, allowing you to see how far before or after the original dates you are.
- Due Date: Select the date when the task is due. This date becomes the baseline due date and is used as a reference in case start and due dates are then changed, allowing you to see how far before or after the original dates you are.
- RAG Status: Select the RAG status for the task. This will default to Grey/New.
- In the Details section:
- Milestone: If this is a milestone task, select the type.
- Priority: Select a priority (one to three stars).
- Completion: Select a percentage complete. If this is a new task with no work done, select 0%.
- Description: Click Add a description to open a rich text editor where you can add a description and additional details about the task.
- In the Assign section, assign Owners, Groups, and Departments. Click the star on a department to make it the primary department.
- In the Tags section, select applicable tags.
Once all information has been added, click Save & Close. You can also click the arrow on the save button and select Save & View Details to create and view your task, or Save & Add Another to create your task and open the Add Task drawer again to add another task.
