A project is a defined initiative with specific goals, timelines, and deliverables related to planning, organizing, or executing major events, managing venue operations, or other large bodies of work. Projects serve as organizational containers that bring together all the tasks, resources, stakeholders, and documentation needed to accomplish these complex, time-bound objectives.
Projects are made up of tasks and milestones that must be completed for the project to succeed. For more about tasks and milestones, see About Tasks and About Milestones.
Projects have a RAG status which is automatically updated based on the status of its tasks. We also calculate the progress of the project in a percentage based on number of tasks completed.
Projects have an expected due date, assigned at the project level, and an actual due date, which is based on the last task due date in the project.
Projects can also have tags, which are organized in Tag Groups. On the project the tag groups are listed and you select a specific tag from each applicable group. For example, you could have a tag group called Strategic Priorities with tags representing each priority. On the project, you would click the Strategic Priorities group and then select the appropriate priority tag for the project. For more about tags and tag groups, see Add and Manage Tags and Tag Groups.
Projects have multiple ways to assign responsibility and visibility:
- Projects have an Owner, the person whose ultimate responsibility it is to see that Project completed.
- Projects can be assigned to a specific Department.
Users can be given access to all projects or just the projects they own. In addition, projects have a privacy status of Open or Confidential. Users can be give access to all confidential projects or given access to specific confidential projects. This access is given on their user; admin permission is required to update this.
