You are able to copy projects and project tasks rather than recreating projects for recurring events and similar operations. You can duplicate entire projects or individual tasks within the project with control over what gets copied, from owners and departments to tags and subscribers. The system intelligently handles date calculations, maintaining relative timelines while adjusting to new start dates, and automatically updates RAG statuses to reflect the new schedule.
In this article:
Duplicate a Project
Projects are duplicated on the Projects list page.
Some notes:
- Linked Items are not duplicated.
- Dependencies are duplicated, but if a dependency (upward or downward) is on an item outside the project it will not be duplicated.
To duplicate a project:
- On the project you want to duplicate, click the duplicate icon or click the three-dot menu and select Duplicate Project. The Customise Project drawer opens.
- Select the copy options:
- Copy Owners: Copy the owners of the project as well as owners on tasks, sub-tasks, and other project content with owners.
- Copy Department: Copy the departments assigned to the project as well as departments on tasks, sub-tasks, and other project content with departments.
- Copy Subscribers
- Copy Project Tags
- Copy Task Tags
- Click Continue.
- Add or update details for the duplicated project as needed.
- Due date: Once a start date is added, the due date will be added, based on the duration of the original project. This cannot be edited.
- Click Confirm.
A confirmation message displays letting you know that project copying is in progress. Depending on the size of the project, this could take several minutes. You can continue to work in the application.
Once the duplicated project is ready an in-app message will display with a link to the project. You will also receive an email notification. In the both the in-app message and email you will be notified of the status of the copy; error messages are only available in the email.
- Complete Success: The project was copied as expected without errors.
- Partial Success: The project was copied but there were errors. View the errors and make data updates as needed. Depending on the amount and type of errors, you may wish to manual update what was copied. If certain tasks were not duplicated, you can duplicate them in the original project and move them to the new one. If there were a large number of errors, it may be more efficient to delete the copied project, correct any data issues, and try to duplicate the project again.
- Complete Failure: The project was not copied.

Duplicate Tasks
Tasks are duplicated on the Project Details page on the Tasks tab.
Some notes:
- Tasks can only be duplicated to their original project. If you would like to copy a task to a different project, copy it first to its project and then move the task to the new project. On the task details page, click Move Task in the Task Summary.
- Sub-tasks will also be duplicated.
- Linked Items will not be duplicated.
- Dependencies will not be duplicated.
- To duplicate a single task, click the Duplicate icon on the task or click the three-dot icon and select Duplicate Task. You can then start at step 4 below.
To duplicate tasks:
- Click Select. Selection boxes display by each task.
- Select the tasks to copy.
- Click Duplicate Items. The Edit Selected Tasks Details drawer opens.
- Select the copy options. Selections apply to all tasks.
- Task Group: Choose an existing task group, or select Choose New Task Group and add the name of the new group. The new task group will be created when you save.
- New Task Schedule: Select the date that the first task will begin on. The start and due dates on the tasks will be set relative to that date based on the date relationships in the original tasks. The Last Task Ends On field will be filled based on those calculations and cannot be edited.
- Copy Owners
- Copy Department
- Copy User Groups
- Copy Subscribers
- Copy Subscriber Groups
- Copy Tags
- Click Save.

Duplication Notes
Date Logic
Both duplication features apply consistent date logic:
- Tasks with start and due dates: Maintain relative timeline with new start date as baseline
- Tasks with no dates: Remain unchanged (no dates)
- Tasks with only due dates: Convert to tasks with no dates
- Tasks with only start dates: Start date shifts to new timeline, due date remains blank
Automated RAG Status Updates
Duplicated tasks start as Grey and are immediately evaluated against account-configured Amber or Red thresholds. The new state-based RAG evaluation method assesses tasks based on their complete current state and new dates.
Parent tasks, task groups, and projects have RAG statuses recalculated based on child task updates. This ensures RAG indicators accurately reflect task status based on new timeline without waiting for scheduled runs.
Permissions
Only users with Admin or Planning Module Admin roles can duplicate projects and tasks. General users without these permissions do not see the duplication options on projects and tasks.
Since Planning Module Admins do not have access to bulk functionality (Select Select All Archive/Duplicate) options, they will not be able to bulk duplicate tasks. They can still duplicate a single task.
