what3words provides a way to describe a location when other ways are not possible, such as when you are in a large crowd in an open space with no obvious landmarks (for example, in a field at a music festival). The what3words team has mapped the whole planet into 3m x 3m squares, with each square given a unique address in the format such as ///pies.area.slate.
WeTrack's integration with what3words allows users of the Incidents module a precision for the logging of incident location. When reports of an incident come in to control, if the report includes a what3words address, the person logging the incident can search for that three-word address and pinpoint where exactly the incident is happening.
To add an incident location using what3words:
- In the Add Incident drawer, open the Location section.
- Click the search icon to open the search field.
- Click the arrow on the left of the search field and select what3words Address.
- Type the what3words address in the search field. Once you start typing the third word, options will display.
- Select the correct location option.
- If you need to refine the location, you can drag the pin to a new location and the what3words address will update automatically.
- Click the square grid icon on the right of the map to display the 3mx3m grid. Drag the pin to a new grid square if needed. The what3words address will update automatically.
